Why it’s important to BELIEVE that Batman can defeat Superman

I’m pretty sure everyone is now aware of the Batman V Superman : Dawn of Justice movie coming out? If not, you probably either: A) Don’t care, or B) are Marty McFly from 1985 and are too caught up with trying escape and/or punch out Biff to care about the internet.

Regardless, some of you who have seen the trailer and don’t understand why Batman is fighting Superman, let alone understand how it’s even possible that SUPERMAN could be defeated by a regular human, there are many reasons which I’m sure the movie will cover, but I’m not here to argue or discuss that. All I want to talk about is why we SHOULD BELIEVE that it’s POSSIBLE for Batman to beat Superman, regardless of the fact that he HAS beaten him in many scenarios in the DC Comics universe.

I’ve read a few posts from comic-book nerds/friends and even Joe Rogan who think it’s stupid and shouldn’t even be a question because Supermans powers would trump Batmans strength on any head to head fight. And that is correct. They would totally end ol’ Brucey. But without sounding redundant and rehashing every superhero fans knowledge of their morals and why they wouldn’t kill each other and such, let’s talk about about what Superman represents.

Clark Kent’s main goal is to blend in with Humans and be a symbol for their saviour. A Super Jesus, perhaps. People even call him a God (I’m sure that’ll be addressed in the new movie) because he’s an Alien, born with these abilities in another galaxy and didn’t really have to work to get it. His moral compass is based on the man-made laws, almost acting like a Government authority. And that’s what he represents. Absolute Authority. I don’t really have to say that Absolute power corrupts, Absolutely, but I just did… and Batman knows this. It’s just unfortunate that most of the time Superman decides to play by the Law so society doesn’t hate him. Because the law is always right, right? I mean I know that Superman doesn’t go busting weed-smokers, but the fact that he seems to represent the law so strictly, I’m sure that he would let the “justice system” prevail. Maybe? Maybe not, but those have generally been his fundamentals.

Batman represents the struggle of humans. Yes, unlike 99% of us, he has been blessed with seemingly endless financial resources. But instead of being entitled with it, he’s worked hard to hone his skills, used his talents in science, martial arts, and technology and all his gifts in the best way possible to fight back against those who have turned on the innocent. Which, as history tells us, are those with Absolute Authority. Arguably the Government and Police and those who tend to abuse their power.

So, does Superman abuse his power (barring exposure to Red Kryptonite)? Not really, but he has the capability to, and Batman is untrusting of those with Absolute Power. Just like WE should be in our world.

And still, we should have faith that we, as humans, should be able to overcome that power, even when we feel helpless against it. We should be able to use our skills and talents and knowledge that we worked HARD to achieve to accomplish good things, and then like Batman and Superman *SPOILER* (Lol! In case it wasn’t obvious) eventually find a balance and learn to work together.

But should Governments and Police feel like invincible Supermen, ever? Fuck no. They’re humans just like us that have decided to do a JOB that aren’t immune to morality. Does Superman think he’s immune to morality? No, but he represents a system that does in the real world. And he’s decided to be “disguised” as a human – Clark Kent doing his JOB as Superman.

Before I finish and you start arguing about the details of Superman’s principles, this is simply all a metaphor for “Mankind vs. Absolute Authority”. Batman v. Superman. Chaos vs Order. There needs to be a balance of both where sometimes Chaos wins and sometimes Order wins.

We have to BELIEVE that it’s possible.

But to flat out say “Superman would ALWAYS destroy Batman because of all his powers and they never should fight”.

‘Fuck outa here, Joe Rogan.

Doomsday Returns – is Drinkognito DC Show’s best release ever?

Sometimes it’s pretty hard to build hype for a band that hasn’t been active together for around 6 years. Let alone a group that never really “made it” anywhere outside of Local Music status. But after years of trying different things with my solo thing, playing in a Rock Band, and whatever collaboration came my way… The DC Show’s “Drinkognito” CD release party on Saturday night felt like we were bigger than we EVER were.

Maybe it was because I’ve been talking about it for almost a year, maybe it was because of the Never Heroes Music video I released, maybe it was because we hit #43 in the Itunes Hip Hop Charts on day 2 of our release, maybe it was because of the Calgary Herald article…

Oh yeah, In case you missed it, we were in the Calgary Herald on Saturday morning, thanks to an awesome interview with Mike Bell over lunch and beers. Read This Shit

To sum it up, on Saturday evening at Vagabond Beerworks We were able to round up a whole shitload of people to come out and party with us, thanks to all our friends, family, and fans, not to mention Iron Lion and his crew of supporters, and Lyka Fox who seem to impress everyone they play for!

Our friends at FYFC.ca Podcasts also have been helping us build some hype by inviting us on their show for a few fun times, including drinking and chatting about the album, and our influences and just regular, everyday awesome shit.

After our show, they posted this review of their DC Show CD Release experience, because they are fuckin awesome and they like to do awesome shit.

Next Sunday, Nov. 2nd, we will be hitting up DJ Cosm’s show Mental Illness on CJSW 90.9FM at 4pm for a little interview and music. If you wanna turn off Drinkognito for a moment during that time to flip on the radio, that would be an acceptable excuse.

It’s now late Sunday night (early monday morning), we’ve had a day to relax and count our blessings, and I’m going to go to bed, back to my “real” job for another work week, but still flying high from the amazing feeling this weekend that took years to build up, and we will try to keep our wings flapping into the new year!

Facebook Sucks. But Suicide Sucks more.

I REALLY wanted to gripe about Facebook/the Internet and the way everyone abuses their freedom of expression and opinions about nonsense, using buzzwords to sound like they know what they’re talking about, “15 things you didn’t know about this useless celebrity”, “This idiot got arrested for this stupid shit”, “I’m battling depression – I’m a victim” and trendy links to more bullshit, but instead of ranting I’ll just write about it in this sentence I just finished.

On that note, Depression/Suicide is serious shit. Whether or not it’s a last ditch effort for attention, or simply an escape from the shackles of this MESSED up world, ultimately it’s the end of a life. Which is what crushes everyone who loves that person, regardless of why. Now, I’ve written songs that brush on this topic (”Neck Tie“, “The Good Life“) because admittedly at some points I’ve asked myself “What am I even doing here?” and “What have I ACTUALLY done for this world?”. But there’s usually a sense of Hope or Love that brings me back.

…and Segue… My friend and amazingly talented Photographer Suzanne Sagmeister recently asked me to get involved in a project of hers called “Conspiracy Of Hope” which I didn’t hesitate to hop on board with. Basically the idea is give Hope to people who have been affected by or dealt with Suicide. She is doing a photography project (which I believe I am a part of) and on MONDAY, August 18th, we’ll be recording a song with a bunch of Talented artists/Producers (think “Band-Aid”, We are the World, type thing). I’m really looking forward to that. This whole project is important and wonderfully moving & inspiring.

On a MUCH MUCH MUCH Brighter and unrelated note, I’ve received the Masters back for The DC Show’s Drinkognito album So I will be sending that off to get Manufactured shortly!! Wahoo! Thanks to DJ Nato in Edmonton at Up In Arms Studios for doing that!

GQ and I are also looking forward to the Podcast Interview/Performance with FYFC Lights Out Radio THIS Friday, August 15th. It’s NOT LIVE so go follow their page to be the first to hear it when it’s put up this weekend. Gonna be full of laughs and music!

Well… Here’s a Comic Book Version of the Doomsday Cartel (The DC Show) that I drew one night. DC Show
